“After this I go to work at a pizza shop. My wife and I were college professors in Bangladesh. I taught accounting. But one dollar in America becomes eighty dollars when we send it back home.”
People forget, when immigrants come to this country they start from scratch. They could have been lawyers in their home country, but in the US..it means nothing. You think a HS diploma from Bangladesh means anything in this country? My mom was a top student in the country, went to all the best school and got the best of everything…but when she got here it meant squat and she was cleaning other people’s homes and scrubbing their toilets. This is why I get pissed of when people talk smack about immigrants. They at least are doing something…..heading for a goal..making sacrifices…what are you doing with your life?
^ My parents were college-educated teachers in their home country and came to the U.S. with nothing but empty pockets, a dash of hope, and a belief in God. They also scrubbed toilets in people’s homes to make enough to provide for their children, and that’s probably not something a lot of educated professionals would be able to do. I know I wouldn’t be able to do it. Pride would get in the way.
THIS IS TOO IMPORTANT.
I’m gonna cry haha. same thing happened with my parents, they were professionals in their country, teachers- my dad taught engineering at 3 different colleges, owned an engineering business. but when they came here…….my dad could barely find job. he had to help mom clean houses as well. they endured this for 10+ years for their children’s sake.
those that talk shit about immigrants really have no idea.

I’m not usually too fond of modern designs, they’re just not my bag. And I really dread the idea of living, rather permanently, in a micro-home because I have way too much stuff and need way too much space to work in. But this thing… this is lovely.

Robert Plutchik created a wheel of emotions in 1980 which consisted of 8 basic emotions and 8 advanced emotions each composed of 2 basic ones.
Eight Basic Emotions
- Joy
- Sadness
- Trust
- Disgust
- Fear
- Anger
- Surprise
- Anticipation
Basic Emotion ⇄ Basic Opposite
- Joy ⇄ Sadness
- Trust ⇄ Disgust
- Fear ⇄ Anger
- Surprise ⇄ Anticipation
Combination of Basic Emotions (A + B) = Advanced Human Emotions (Opposite Advanced Emotion in Parentheses)
- Anticipation + Joy = Optimism (Disapproval)
- Joy + Trust = Love (Remorse)
- Trust + Fear = Submission (Contempt)
- Fear + Surprise = Awe (Aggression)
- Surprise + Sadness = Disappointment (Optimism)
- Sadness + Disgust = Remorse (Love)
- Disgust + Anger = Contempt (Submission)
- Anger + Anticipation = Aggression (Awe)
I actually had this diagram from my psychology class and I started writing a series or fics based on all the emotions.
But this one is way more detailed I’ll have to save it.

I found this show on Netflix called Bridal Plasty. I watched one episode, it’s actually real, and I am disgusted. It’s a group of brides competing for plastic surgery to become the ultimate “perfect” bride for their wedding. The hostess running the show doesn’t try to tell them that no, they DON’T need these cosmetic surgeries to become “perfect.” Instead, she makes them feel like crap about what they already have and show them pictures of what they could look like. Like I understand that one woman wants breast reconstruction from having cancer, and another wants her skin removed/tucked from drastic weight loss on the biggest loser. But all the other things they are picking out on these women are ridiculous. All of the women but one will eventually be eliminated, so about 10 or so women are going to go home with the emotional wreckage of not feeling good enough. And I mean, these women are already beautiful. They’re women I encounter on a day to day basis. Their husbands/fiances already think they are perfect. I understand getting in shape and slimming down for yourself, setting a goal to be healthier by your wedding… but surgery? Someone should be encouraging these women that they don’t NEED to undergo cosmetic reconstruction on their bodies and faces to be beautiful. It’s absolutely fucked up. Instead of helping these women conquer their insecurities and help them realize that they can in fact love themselves for what they already have, they are perpetuating the society that constantly picks apart every little “flaw.” It’s disgusting. I’ve seen some pretty trash TV, but this takes the cake.
Please share this. This idolization of the perfect woman needs to stop.
